GPs and primary health care teams may require other specialist advice at later stages of the patient’s dementia journey, relating to

• people with complex psychological presentations or co-morbidities
• indeterminate diagnoses
• questions about mental capacity
• people who present with behaviours that challenge, or other psychological conditions, and therapeutic interventions
• pain management
• prescribing; medications management
• carers’ support and assessment
• domiciliary care and support
• planning care towards the end of life. (Department of Health, 2011)
