A panel of ‘dementia champions’ will be set up to select the bids that will be funded. This will be chaired by Terry Butler, Non-Executive Director at NHS South of England and involve representatives from the NHS, local authorities, the voluntary and community sector, and people living with dementia and carers/families who will review the proposals and decide which applications to support.

- Three sub-regional panels meet and make recommendations by 5 October 2012
- Regional Panel meets and makes decisions by 19 October 2012
- Announcements by 26 October 2012
- Successful Applicants to submit a baseline report (template to be provided) by the 10th November 2012
- Funding allocated on 15 November 2012

The selection process aims to ensure that a coherent, equitable and efficient approach is achieved across the South of England.
The Selection process document proposes:
- the key stake holders to be involved in the selection process, and the rationale;
- how the involvement of people living with dementia, and their carers/families, might be achieved in ways which are both meaningful and purposeful;
- the key steps for the selection process;
- the Terms of Reference for the sub regional Selection Panels, including membership.
