The partners who are making the proposal must agree their local governance arrangements that cover the relationship between the projects that make up the overall local bid:

  • The application must describe local approval processes for the project
  • There should be evidence of support and on-going participation from people with dementia and carers
  • The processes for managing the project should be described
  • The risk and performance management strategies should be described.

Selection process

A panel of ‘dementia champions’ will be set up to select the bids that will be funded. This will be chaired by Terry Butler, Non-Executive Director at NHS South of England and involve representatives from the NHS, local authorities, the voluntary and community sector, and people living with dementia and carers/families who will review the proposals and decide which applications to support.

The Regional Panel will meet and make decisions by 19 October 2012 with announcements by 26 October 2012.

Reporting

All successful applicants must submit a baseline report (a template will be provided) within one month of receipt of funding and a subsequent report at the end of January 2013.

Sharing and spreading learning

This is a fundamental aspect of the challenge. By applying, applicants are agreeing to share and spread their work and learning. This may include, but is not limited to reasonable requests for:

  • presenting at events
  • producing articles / papers
  • providing information to the SHA team (and their successor) upon request, and
  • working with media, including the professional press.
